OOIDA thanks FMCSA for protective masks

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association thanks the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for providing free masks to truck drivers delivering goods during the ongoing pandemic response.

OOIDA had sent an urgent letter to the White House several weeks ago, pleading for action to safeguard the supply chain by assuring truck drivers have adequate access to COVID-19 testing, personal protective equipment and, if needed, quarantine lodging outside of their trucks.

“Truckers are risking their lives to deliver essential goods,” said Todd Spencer, OOIDA President and CEO. “We thank the agency for responding and taking action.”

FMCSA announced that they would be distributing free protective masks at rest areas at several locations throughout the U.S. OOIDA has listed this and other daily updates on a special COVID-19 webpage at www.landline.media and www.www.ooida.com.

“We are still very concerned about what drivers should be instructed to do if they become ill while working,” said Spencer. “Access to testing must be available where they are, particularly on busy truck routes. And testing must show results in hours, not days,” he said.
