10/1/09-A bill that will have to wait until next year for further consideration would prohibit drivers from using cell phones. Exceptions would be made for emergencies.
Under H277, violations would be a secondary offense. First offenders would face $25 fines. Repeat offenders would face $50 fines. Subsequent offenses would result in $100 fines.
The bill remained in the House Transportation Committee. It can be brought back for consideration during the 2010 session.
