5/29/09-A bill died that included a hefty tax increase on fuel bought throughout the state that is used by large trucks.
The Senate Taxation Committee voted earlier this month to attach a provision to AB235 to increase the state’s 27.75-cent-per-gallon tax on diesel to 34.75 cents. But the bill later was a casualty of a legislative deadline, effectively killing it for the year.
With the exception of Washoe County, every county throughout the state also could have asked voters whether to index the diesel tax. Washoe County was not included in the provision because voters already approved fuel indexing.
The Nevada Motor Transport Association said that AB235 would have allowed counties to apply indexing solely to diesel.
5/19/09-The Senate Taxation Committee approved legislation Friday, May 15, that includes a hefty tax increase on fuel bought throughout the state that is used by large trucks. The panel voted 4-1 to insert a provision into AB235 to increase the state’s diesel tax by 7 cents per gallon.
The bill’s next stop is the full Senate. If approved there, it would need approval of changes in the Assembly before it could go to Gov. Jim Gibbons where a likely veto would await.
