10/28/09-The House Transportation Committee voted to advance a bill that would enact a state law to prohibit drivers from reading, writing or sending text messages. Exceptions would be made for emergencies.
Violations would be a secondary offense – meaning drivers would face $100 fines if they are pulled over for another reason. No points would be added to driver’s licenses.
HB4394 now moves to the House floor. For House bill status, call 517-373-0136.
