5/20/08-In response to a push from Republicans in the state to authorize a sales tax holiday on fuel purchases, Senate Democrats are throwing around the idea of giving every household in the state $100 to help cope with fuel prices.
Democrats say their rebate plan would cost the state $300 million while the tax holiday would carry a price tag of $600 million. Money for the rebate plan could be routed from the Rainy Day fund.
Advocates for the rebate plan say it would actually be cheaper for the state and more effective in helping consumers.
A formal plan has not yet been offered.
