7/16/08-A concurrent resolution in the Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee proposes to amend the state’s Constitution to dedicate at least $500 million annually for transportation projects. If approved by the Legislature, it would go to voters.
Sponsored by Assemblyman Alex DeCroce, R-Parsippany, ACR182 would direct $500 million come via the Motor Vehicle Commission fee collections. Of that amount, $200 million would be used to pay debt service on bonds with the rest routed for transportation projects.
The proposed amendment includes a provision that would prohibit the Legislature from using the funds for anything but transportation work.
An identical measure – SCR107 – is in the Senate Transportation Committee.
