6/16/08-The House Transportation Committee voted to approve a bill that would prohibit drivers from reading, writing or sending text messages.
Sponsored by Rep. Steve Bieda, D-Warren, HB5117 would fine violators up to $500. Exceptions would be made for emergencies.
The bill now moves to the House floor for further consideration. If approved there, it would advance to the Senate for further consideration.
