7/24/08-The Senate has approved a $1.4 billion transportation package to improve roads, bridges and transit throughout the state during the next five years.
Included in the package is $500 million for non-federal aid road and bridge work, $350 million in transportation funds for local communities and $65 million for rail improvements.
S2790 has moved to the House where a different version was approved. A conference committee made up of select members from both chambers will work on hammering out a compromise version.
The Senate bill includes a provision that authorizes the state to apply for federal funding that uses state money for major improvements on toll roads.
