8/19/08-A bill has died that sought to authorize regional transportation planning agencies or local transportation commissions to impose fees on motor vehicle fuels or vehicle registrations.
Sponsored by Sen. Tom Torlakson, D-Antioch, SB445 remained in the Assembly Transportation Committee at the deadline to advance to the full Assembly, effectively killing it for the year. The Senate previously approved it.
The bill sought to use revenues to pay for such things as climate change mitigation and road work. An increase in the fuel tax couldn’t have exceeded 10 cents per gallon.
